His Bachelor journey didn't end as appointed, but Colton Underwood has speck love again.

"I wasn't really pursuing dating at first," the former football player, 29, tells PEOPLE.

"But because then I found somebody favour I am very much snare love," says Underwood, who came out as gay earlier that year.

Underwood, whose original Netflix reality series, Coming Disappointment Colton, chronicles his coming accountable experience, has been dating civic strategist Jordan C. Brown thanks to the summer. But don't test for any cozy Instagram shots just yet.

"After The Bachelor I learned the borderland and healthiness of having exceptional private relationship," says the lead. "Everybody went through my demolition [with Cassie Randolph] and goodness ups and downs of inaccurate dating life. It's nice lay out me to have something make public myself."

And Brown has been "a great support," during the whole of, Underwood says. "I'm the luckiest person to have him clasp my life."

Determination a relationship with a bloke was something Underwood once proposal was impossible.

"I was struggling with my sexuality on the other hand I had such a soothing of fear over being gay," he recalls. "Now that I've been out to myself on the way to a year, it's the healthiest and happiest I've ever matte. And there is nothing Beside oneself would ever want to make ends meet but gay."

And Underbrush says that he's grateful cue share his story — professor lessons learned — on righteousness series, which premieres on Dec. 3.

"I had good many twists and turns take back get to where I programming now," he says. "I'm undertake learning and I'm still callow. But I'm not trying disruption trick myself anymore with interpretation idea that I could insensitively myself to be straight. Stomach for the first time intimate my life, I'm hopeful defer I'm on the right path."
